2014-03-18 Elevation Front--webFundraising by the Friends of Abenaki has provided the ski area with a state-of-the-art groomer, kiddie tow and the top-to-bottom snowmaking system that allowed the area to open with GREAT CONDITIONS again this year.

The Friends of Abenaki are now working with the town to help fund a new four-season multi-use base lodge to be built in the summer of 2015.  The lodge will include space for a ski lodge, cross country ski warming room, restrooms, kitchen, and year round program, meeting and function space.

Please support our organization by attending its events and get involved in the exciting community project by donating below!

Some interesting FACTS about Abenaki’s NEW snowmaking system: 2012

  • Snowmaking started on Christmas Eve
  • Snow was made for approximately 10 days this season (on and off) and it produced on average 4 feet of snow on the hill.
  • We also made enough snow to cover Freeway and Headwall trails and create a 0.71 mile XC ski loop.
  • As of early March, the area has logged over 4000 visits for the season.

Warm Weather ends the 2012 Season

Ethan Hipple, director of the Wolfeboro Parks and Recreation Department notified Friends of Abenaki that the ski area is now closed for the year.  The high temperatures of mid March caused a lot of water to run down the slope, changing conditions quickly.

Coming off a winter with record low snowfall amounts… were it not for the new snowmaking system from the Friends of Abenaki, the area would not have been able to open this year.  As it turned out, Abenaki had some of the best conditions of any area in New England, and it also had its busiest season in years with over 4700 total skier visits.

With the change of seasons…remember that the new Abenaki Pathway Trail is great for walking, biking or jogging from town out to Abenaki.

ABENAKI ON A BEAUTIFUL WINTER DAY

This winter Abenaki had some of the BEST

Conditions of any area in New England!!!

With the first year of the new permanent snowmaking system, and the amazing grooming by the staff, the Abenaki Ski Area in Wolfeboro was a great place to ski or snowboard.  New lighting for 2012 made for brilliant night riding.  For more information, including directions, trail map, rates, webcam and more, click here.

We look forward to seeing you at Abenaki next winter!

Thank you!

The Friends of Abenaki would like to thank all who joined us to watch the ski movie, “Winter”.  It was a fun evening!  We would also like to thank those who attended our annual pancake breakfast at Garwoods; as well as Greg, Gordon and their professional staff.  It was another fun & successful event!  Almost $3,000 was raised from the movie, breakfast & raffle which will go toward the remaining costs associated with the installation of the permanent snowmaking system.
Thanks to all who shared it with us.
